Apple Picking at Marker-Miller Orchards
Last year on our way to pumpkin picking, we drove by an apple orchard that was booming. People were parking their cars on the side of the main road. We had decided that this year, we would try the place out before heading to pick pumpkins.
Marker-Miller Orchards has been in the Marker family for over 100 years. Over the past 60 years, the family has been diversifying the fruits and vegetables that they grow on the farm. They also have expanded where they sell what's grown on the farm as well as fresh baked pies and apple cider donuts (which smelled delicious and seemed to be very popular). I bought some apple cider and apple butter from the farm market and can verify that they are delicious! Should have bought bigger containers.
When we went, they were having an Apple Festival. There were several booths with different cute handmade crafts for sell. There was also bar-b-q for sell and live music being played. Plenty of tables outside of the Farm Market and picnic tables under the big pavilion. You could also bring a nice picnic blanket with you and sit on the ground to eat. Better yet, pack a lunch and bring it with you!
There were plenty of different signs to get that awesome Fall picture of the kids. Unfortunately, Michael was not interested in doing any of that. I was lucky that I was able to get this picture.
There are plenty of things to keep the little ones entertained. Michael was hopping from one play set to another. I'm surprised that we were able to break him away to go pick apples, but we were.
All the different kinds of apples that you could pick!
The different size bags that you can buy. In order to pick apples, you have to purchase one of these bags. We bought a half bushel which is the large bag.
They had these helpful signs as well as giving us a map of where all the different apple trees were. We picked only red and golden delicious apples.
Off to go find apples!
Showing Michael what he needed to look for in an apple before picking it from the tree.
He wanted to carry the bag, but it started getting heavy. The apples were surprisingly big!
I went on my own search for some golden delicious apples which are my favorite.
They found me! We all had a fun time. They also had hayrides and pumpkin picking, but we were going to head up the road to Hill High Farm to do that (click here to read about our trip last year).
