The Glitz at Irish Acres
Review guidelines:
1 Fork = I would rather eat dog food.2 Forks = I would eat there if I was starving.
3 Forks = Not bad; someplace I would occasionally consider eating.
4 Forks = A good place to eat; I will put it into my rotation of places I dine frequently.
5 Forks = One of my all time favorites!
One caveat to note – I am allergic to fish and seafood, so if you are looking for those recommendations, you will have to consult someone else.
Because I have a daughter-in-law with Celiac and a really good friend who is Vegetarian, I will try to point out whether those options are present when I review a restaurant.

The Glitz at Irish Acres

The occasion was lunch with my friend Karen. The Glitz is located on the lower level of Irish Acres Antiques Gallery and the drive alone is worth the trip. Located way out in the country in Nonesuch, KY (a wide spot in the road), it is a scenic drive from Lexington, Versailles, Nicholasville and beyond. Irish Acres was established in 1974. The restaurant was opened in the late 80s. Featured in Southern Living Magazine and the recipient of National design awards, "a fairyland setting and a gracious staff await your visit to The Glitz!” Irish Acres was transformed from an old elementary school when the rural districts in KY counties were consolidated with the city schools. I have been coming to the Irish Acres and The Glitz for years. It is a fantastic dining experience. The chef always incorporates seasonal and local items into the menu in a very creative way. The three course meal will fill you up! Lunch begins with a Spiced Apple Refresher, which is a non-alcoholic beverage served in a champagne flute. Guests may choose from three appetizers, two entrees, and three desserts. Coffee, tea, and soft drinks are also available. I ordered the Asian Spring Roll appetizer. The ingredients were very light, and if you like spicy, it was served in a pool of chili sauce with additional peanut sauce for dipping. My friend ordered the Vidalia Onion Soup and pronounced it very good. For my entrée, I chose the Chicken Lasagna Florentine which was accompanied by a small salad of field greens garnished with walnuts, mandarin oranges, and their famous poppyseed dressing. The lasagna was very good and the spinach did not overpower the dish, as is sometimes the case with anything “Florentine.” The entrée also includes a small muffin. My friend chose the Lemon Tilapia and she said it was excellent, especially since Tilapia is not one of her favorite fish species. The fish was accompanied by mashed potatoes. The Glitz is known for its decadent desserts.
First timers will enjoy browsing the 32,000 square feet of antiques and gifts. Everything at Irish Acres is over the top! The Glitz has published a cookbook which is for sale in the Gallery upstairs. In addition, their Spiced Apple Refresher, Poppyseed Dressing, Mango Chutney, and Hazelnut Coffee are also for sale. The menu changes bi-weekly and reservations are required. The Glitz is closed Sunday and Monday as well as during the winter months. Irish Acres had a sister property in Ashland, KY (no restaurant), but information on the web is sketchy – leading me to believe it may not be open any longer.
Gluten Free Options – none advertised.
Vegetarian Options – none advertised.
Since the menu changes often, check it out in advance to see if anything meatless is offered. For the Glitz complete menu and hours of operation, visit their website:http://irishacresgallery.com/
