Ghost Train at Burke Lake Park

Halloween family fun on the Ghost Train at Burke Lake Park in Northern Virginia,
There seems to be so many awesome events and activities just within driving distance to where we live.  I've known about the train at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, VA, but had never gotten around to taking Michael down to ride it.  When I was searching for something fun to do this past weekend, I found out that they have a ghost train for Halloween.

They have had a miniature Centeral Huntington Steam Engine at the park since 1967.  The train runs from April thru October every year.  For a schedule and more information about what's available at the park, click here.

The train tickets are normally $2.50.  Since they were having the ghost train, the price was $5.  Along the 1.75 miles of track there were people dressed up as different characters.  Some were scary, but must were kid friendly or very silly.

When we road past the Witches Junction the first time, all the witches were playing Twister.  When we came back around, they were line dancing.

Peter Pan and Captain Hook were fighting the first time around.  When we came back, Captain Hook was running away from a the tic-toc crock.  There were several Disney scenes along the way.

There was also a pumpkin patch.  The pumpkins were "asleep" when we road by, but when we came back the train stopped.  The pumpkins "woke up" and then handed out candy to all the kids on the train.  Michael loved it!  He had a smile on his face the whole ride.

There's also a carousel there to ride.  Michael didn't seem too interested in riding it.  Tickets were at regular price of $1.75.

They had a pretty awesome playground that Michael was at for most of the time there.

Our monkey decided that he wanted to try the monkey bars.  He had a blast playing on the playground.

For this Halloween event, they had this pumpkin shape bouncy house.  There were no tickets to bounce, just preferred a donation.  Michael bounced in the pumpkin twice.

They also had an area setup with small pumpkins and lots of paint.  This was also donation preferred.  Michael enjoyed painting his pumpkin.

There's also an ice cream parlor at the park.  Michael and Jon enjoyed their own chocolate milk shake.  I enjoyed a scoop of strawberry ice cream.  We had eaten before we got there, but you could also purchase hot dogs and pizza at the parlor.

The air smelled of delicious popcorn and cotton candy.  Jon decided to get a whole bag of popcorn for the family to share and a Coke for Jon and I to share.

Michael was having too much fun so, he enjoyed the popcorn on the car ride home.

We had a great time.  One thing I should mention is that if you're not a Fairfax County resident, there's a $10 entrance fee.  I'm certain that we will be back next year to enjoy the train ride when everything is green and the weather is a little warmer.  If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend and live in or near Northern Virginia, check out the ghost train.
