I always try to do one boy and one girl for
Operation Christmas Child, but have never done a box for the older group. I've read that this group is the least group that boxes are made for. I guess it's because it's a little harder to find stuff that will fit in the box. To learn more about our
other boxes and packing them, click here. As with Michael's box, I wasn't able to fit everything in.

Update - November 3, 2017
Starting this year, the following
items should NOT be packed in the OCC boxes: Candy; toothpaste; used or
damaged items; war-related items such as toy
guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; seeds; fruit rolls
or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); liquids or
lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or
glass containers; aerosol cans.
Here's what I tried to pack:
- solar powered calculator
- jump rope
- tote bag
- 1 yard of fabric
- candy (I'll show below what all we're packing)
- pedicure kit
- manicure kit
- 2 things of chapstick
- travel size tissue paper
- 2 glue sticks
- travel sewing kit
- travel pens
- rag doll
- small notebook
- Christmas cup
- pencils
- brush (actually packed a different one than what's in picture)
- crayons
- hair scrunchies
- tooth paste
- Ivory soap
- travel size deodorant
- harmonica
- Christmas ball and paddle
- grab and go pack
- Frozen puzzle
- tooth brushes
- scissors
- Disney stickers
- coloring sheets
I
took a good majority of the items out of the packaging to be able to
fit all that I could in the box. Here's one idea of how I saved some
room and gave them something to hold some items in:
My mom had given me a whole bunch of her empty Crystal Light
containers for Michael to put his crayons and markers in. I had three
unused containers and decided to use them for our boxes. The whole box of crayons, 2
glue sticks, and I had bought some erasers and pencil grippers after
some of these pictures were taken fit in this container. My mom will be adding a pencil
sharpener to the boxes for me. I also used the cup to help hold items
and get more in the box.
I had gone to Big Lots after I had taken the pictures with all the items purchased and bought different width head bands. Can't go wrong with head bands and hair scrunchies!
I found this awesome brush and mirror combo at Big Lots. Decided that this would be better than the bigger brush I originally purchased.
I also bought soap holders so that their soap could be stored after they opened them up.
Tooth brush protectors for all the tooth brushes. I love the one that I use for my tooth brush.
Each box gets two caramel cover apple suckers because they are Michael's favorite suckers right now, three blow pops with bubble gum in the middle, a ring pop, some peppermint mints, spearmint mints, and dum-dums.
When I was a bank teller, I would make dum-dum bouquets like this one
for the kids when I had some down time. My original plan was to put one
in the girl's box, but it took up too much room. I ended up putting it
in a sandwich baggy. We already
had a huge bag of dum-dums so I just picked out every flavor for each of
the three boxes.
Don't forget to double bag all your candy. Yep, these kids are going to probably be on a sugar high for a few days!
What special treats do you pack in your boxes? Have you found it hard to pack a box for the older group? I'm sure there are many more ideas to pack in the box. Feel free to comment below with those ideas.
