Going shopping without a list might cost you to go over your budget - Meal Plans and Grocery Shopping for March 27th - April 2nd

meal plans, grocery shopping, $50 weekly grocery/household budget,
We were out of town over the weekend and didn't get around to doing our weekly shopping until yesterday.  I didn't really have a list or a meal plan before Michael and I headed out to do the shopping.  Here's what I came up with for the remainder dinners this week:
  1. pizza
  2. Hamburger Helper

We started at our usual, Walmart.  Here's what we ended up buying.
  • 1 loaf of wheat bread  $1.68
  • 22 Kool-Aid packets  $0.20 x 22 = $4.40
  • pepperoni pizza  $6.98
  • 4- 15oz cans of tomato sauce  $0.88 x 4 = $3.52
  • 2 small cans of tomato sauce  $0.44 x 2 = $0.88
  • 2 small cans of tomato sauce  $0.42 x 2 = $0.84
  • sweet pickles  $2.48
  • tuna  $3.37
  • gummies  $2.00
  • 2L Coke  $1.48
  • toilet paper  $6.97
We needed to replenish our tomato sauce since I had used our last can and some other items.  I spent $35.71 at Walmart.  Off to Wegmans we went.

Only had a few things we absolutely needed at Wegmans.  Here's what we ended up buying.
  • 1/2 gallon chocolate milk  $2.69
  • 1/2 gallon whole milk  $2.29
  • OJ  $2.49
  • cranapple  $2.69
  • pop tarts  $2.89
I spent $13.38 at Wegmans.  The grand total spent was surprisingly $49.09.  That makes us under budget by $0.91.  I was really expecting to be going over the budget because of the fact that I had no list and was just pulling stuff off the shelf that sounded good.
