Over the past several months we have been working on getting what used to be the spare bedroom ready for Michael's big boy room. Originally he wanted his room to stay pirates, but within the past few months he had changed it to the Octonauts. If you've ever tried looking for stuff for an Octonauts themed bedroom, you know that there's hardly anything to buy here in the US. Here's how Jon and I decorated Michael's new big boy room.
Follow Lucy's board Mr M's Octonauts Bedroom Ideas on Pinterest.
Once Michael had decided that he was wanting an Octonauts bedroom, I created a Pinterest board with all the different ideas I could find.
The first thing that you see, Michael's ever growing library. We have plans with my old bookcase so stay tune to see what we end up doing to update it. My mom purchased the anchor from
Cracker Barrel.
When looking for some wall art, we didn't find much out there. Several months ago, Michael had taken his one and only Octonaut book and ripped many pages out of it. I decided that there were several pages that could be used for his new room as wall art.
The only thing that I bought that was Octonaut themed. These large wall decals were purchased from an online party website.
We decided that Michael would graduate up to the twin bed instead of spending the money to convert his toddler bed to a full. Jon's mom bought him the sea creature bed sheets from
Home Goods. We had bought the small Octonaut stuffed animals last year from Walmart and the sign above his bed is from
Hobby Lobby.
I was originally going to buy a pirate ship lamp from Target, but for less than the cost of the lamp at Target Jon was able to make an Octonauts lamp. Hopefully Jon will write a post soon on how he was able to make this lamp out of an Octonauts toy gup.
We bought the captains wheel from Hobby Lobby. Since the Octonauts have a pirate and are in the sea, we thought we would bring in some nautical pieces.
You can't see it that well in the picture, but there are some bubbles that came with the wall decals amongst the wall art. The Octonaut logo was actually made by Jon and I. Here's how we made it,
DIY Octonauts wall art.
We had bought this stuffed animal holder from
Ikea last year. Great way to hold the smaller stuffed animals.
I wanted to reuse the letters that were over Michael's crib in his nursery. I painted over the brown and then we glued orange ribbon on the backs to connect them.
There you have it. I think we did a pretty good job with decorating Michael's big boy bedroom. He was so happy when he walked in the first night and said that he loved it.

ReplyDeleteThank you. We actually had the color picked out long before Michael was even born. Just never got around to painting the room.

ReplyDeleteThanks for having the link party. My husband is the one who made the lamp so, I'm hoping he'll write a post soon about it.
