Since it's extremely hard to find wall art for an Octonauts themed bedroom, Jon decided that he would make his own wall art. I originally thought that he would just paint a picture of the Octonauts logo and we would frame it. He decided that he want to do something better than a framed painting.
We bought this round wooden disc at Lowe's. They have about three different sizes. We went with the medium size one. Jon used a push pin in the center of the disc and string to sketch out the outer circle. He then did the same for the head of the octopus. For the eyes and mouth, he used some of Michael's toys to help sketch them out. The rest of the octopus was hand drawn by Jon.
Just one coat of orange paint.
One coat of white and orange paint. Jon didn't want to be able to see the wood grains so another coat would be needed.
Painted the outer ring white and Jon used the blue that I painted Michael's letters with for the side of the disc. Just needed some touch-up and it was ready to prepare for hanging.
We bought wall hangers that would be able to handle something heavy and put some felt stoppers so that the wall wouldn't get dung up.
Jon made sure to hang the wall art on a stud to help. There you have it. A fairly simple way to make a nice piece of wall art for any little boy or girl's Octonaut themed bedroom. If you want to see the rest of what we did for Michael's big boy bedroom, you can check out my post
