Bad Wolf Cafe
Review guidelines:
1 Fork = I would rather eat dog food.
2 Forks = I would eat there if I was starving.
3 Forks = Not bad; someplace I would occasionally consider eating.
4 Forks = A good place to eat; I will put it into my rotation of places I dine frequently.
5 Forks = One of my all time favorites!
One caveat to note – I am allergic to fish and seafood, so if you are looking for those recommendations, you will have to consult someone else.
Because I have a daughter-in-law with Celiac and a really good friend who is Vegetarian, I will try to point out whether those options are present when I review a restaurant.

Bad Wolf Café

Bad Wolf Café is relatively new to Lexington, but their location has been there forever. Meadowthorpe Café was housed in this building for many, many years. It was a home-cooking joint that drew workers from the surrounding offices at lunch. When they sold out to the new owners, a new concept was born. Out with the diner image…Bad Wolf focuses exclusively on burgers. Their Facebook page states: “We are proud to serve fresh, never frozen beef-crafted in house and seasoned on the spot.” Bad Wolf was featured recently on the TV show The Local Traveler. It is located in the end of a strip mall in the industrial Leestown section of Lexington. Décor is of the minimalist, road house variety (minus peanuts on the floor). Customers place their orders at the counter and then the food is brought to your table. While standing in line to order, you will be tantalized with a case full of desserts from Martine’s, a well-known French bakery in Lexington. The dining rooms are not huge, and the line of customers waiting to order gets quite long during the lunch rush. I tried to dine there a couple months ago and had to leave because of the crowd. So…get there early (by 11:45) to avoid the lunch crowds.
The occasion of this visit was a lunch break with three friends from work. The menu consists of several gourmet, hand patted, fresh beef Burgers and a few Kid’s Meals. Free unlimited fries are offered to everyone. They are crinkle cut seasoned fries, but given the size of the burgers, I think it is unlikely that many people take advantage of the unlimited offer. I selected the signature Big Wolf Burger. It consisted of a large, juicy beef patty cooked to order exactly the way I wanted it. The burger was topped with bacon, beer cheese, and onion straws. I was only able to eat half the burger because of the size. This was without a doubt, the best burger I have ever eaten. It is difficult to serve a burger well done and still retain the juiciness of the meat, but they managed to do just that. The beer cheese was delicious. I did not ask, but suspect that it is made in-house. The fries were nice and crisp. I also chose a piece of a very attractive chocolate layered cake for dessert (take home). The cake was moist and delicious also.
It is hard to argue with Bad Wolf Café’s strategy. Do one thing and do it well. But they appear to be successful doing just that. Bad Wolf is a very good concept in a tried and true location with a selection of specialty burgers to please everyone.
Service was efficient and friendly. Lunch with burger, fries, drink, chocolate cake, and tax was $14.00.
Check out their hours of operation at: https://www.facebook.com/Bad-Wolf-Burgers-131828576855252/. A very limited sample menu is posted on their site, but the full menu is basically on a blackboard by the register, and I assume that some selections do change periodically.
Gluten Free Options – none advertised.
Vegetarian Options – none advertised. Don’t bother – it’s a burger place!!
