Apple Pie

delicious apple pie, what to do with the apples that you picked, desserts,
I love me some apple pie, but live with a husband who does not like pie at all and a preschooler who is still figuring out what he likes.  Normally I don't get or make pies unless there will be people over to help eat it, but I had lots of apples from our apple picking we did (Apple Picking at Marker-Miller Orchards) that needed to be used.

Here's what all you'll need to make this delicious apple pie:

3/4 - 1C sugar
2 Tbsp flour
1 tsp cinnamon
pinch of nutmeg
6 - 8 apples (pealed and sliced)
2 Tbsp butter
2 pie crusts

First preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

In a mixing bowl (I love my Pyrex mixing bowl set) you'll want to add the sugar,

You'll want to peal and slice your apples.  I decided to purchase an apple slicer from Walmart and am in love with it!  If you're interested in purchasing one, you can click here to see what all is available on Amazon.

Once you have all your apples pealed, sliced and in another mixing bowl (I've been using Michael's Curious Chef 3 Quart Mixing Bowl for my larger mixing), you'll want to start mixing in the dry mixture that you made earlier.

Make sure that all the slices are evenly coated.

In a 9 in pie pan (my pan is The Pioneer Woman's 9 in Stoneware Pie Dish, but I would suggest going to Walmart to get it - much cheaper), you want to place one of you crusts.  With a fork, poke some holes throughout the crust.  This will help with releasing the heat that gets trapped in the pie.

Add your pie filling to the crust.

Take the butter and cut it into cubes.

Place you're second crust over the apple filling and try and seal it with the bottom crust.  I must not have done it well enough because we had some juices spill out in the oven.  You then want to cut 4 slits in the crust to help let the steam release from the pie during baking.  Place in your preheated oven  for 35 - 45 minutes.

My slice actually fell apart when I was pulling it out, but it still tasted delicious.  Serve with either a nice side of vanilla ice cream or some fluffy cool whip.  Since I had plenty of apples left, I bought an aluminum pie tin and made a second pie.  Instead of putting it in the oven, I covered with foil and placed in the freezer.  We will have a nice apple pie for Christmas and all I have to do is thaw it out and stick it in the oven since all the hard work is done.
