Twenty-Four Christmas Movies Countdown
I'm pretty excited about this. The last four years we've been doing a Christmas book countdown which is always fun. I decided last year, after I realized I had finally purchased just enough movies, that I could also do a Christmas movie countdown.
wrapping paper
Maybe a box or two of popcorn!
This is going to be such an awesome way to have some family fun every night instead of once a week. Another great way to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Santa Buddies: The Legend of Santa Paws - If you or your little one like the Buddies movies, this is a must see. Santa Paws' puppy wants to be a normal dog and ends up meeting up with the Buddies during the Christmas season.
Christmas Tales - This is a new movie for us. Michael got this for Christmas last year from my mom. I'm sure that it's going to be great. We love Peanuts.
The Muppet Christmas Carol - This is one of my all time favorite Christmas movies. I have to watch it every year. I also think it's one of the better versions out there of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol.
The Little Drummer Boy - We love Veggie Tales and what better way to learn about the real meaning of Christmas than with Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber.
It's a Meaningful Life - Veggie Tales has taken the classic It's a Wonderful Life and gave their spin on it. A great way to still get that classic in during the season and in a way that everyone will understand.
Mickey's Christmas Carol - Another one of my favorite Christmas movies. It probably was my first version of A Christmas Carol.
Toy Story That Time Forgot - A rather new Christmas story that we just love. If you or your children love Toy Story, this is a must for your collection.
Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas - We actually have the original and the Jim Carrey version. For some reason, the cartoon version scares Michael so I didn't wrap it up this year. It was actually fine because we had 25 movies to choose from this year. It's not Christmas if you don't watch at least one of these. The first time Michael watched the Jim Carrey version was during his first Christmas. He was 6 months and the laugh that came out of that little body was so enjoyable to hear and see.
Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas Special - If you like the Ice Age movies, than you'll love this. Always funny to see the different spins on Christmas in the animal world. Oh, and don't forget about the squirrel and his nut!
The Star of Christmas - Another great one from Veggie Tales.
A Charlie Brown Christmas - Another classic and must watch every year.
Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas - This has become one of Michael's favorites. He actually will watch it anytime of the year. This one has some of the older Disney cartoons in it. There's also Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas which has some newer cartoon shorts in it.
Saint Nicholas: A Story of Joyful Giving - Another one from Veggie Tales were they give a spin on the story of Santa Claus or Saint Nicholas.
A Very Merry Muppet Christmas - If you love the Muppets, I recommend adding this to your collection.
Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas Special - You get a look at how Belle spent Christmas with the Beast. If you love Beauty and the Beast, you'll love this.
The Nightmare Before Christmas - Just bought this this year and watched it while we were carving our pumpkins for Halloween. I figured since Disney has their Haunted Mansion decorated in the Nightmare Before Christmas all through Halloween and Christmas, why not have this in our countdown.
The Penguins Operation Special Delivery - We love the Penguins and the stories that they get themselves into. This is a must see.
The Santa Claus, The Santa Claus 2, and The Santa Claus 3 - Another set of all time favorite Christmas movies.
Home Alone and Home Alone 2 - I bought these last year. Can't wait to show these to Michael. Another set of Christmas movies, could we say, classics?!?
Octonauts: Very Vegimal Christmas - Michael loves Octonauts and mom bought him this Christmas special for Christmas last year. If you have an Octonauts lover, this is a must.
We also have National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2, and A Christmas Story; but didn't add it to the countdown because we think it's a little too much for Michael right now. We also have the classic Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire. When I think of Christmas, I definitely think of Bing Crosby. What other movies would you add to the list? There are so many great ones out there. Santa Claus the Movie is one that I would like to add to our collection.
Now that you have an idea on what movies to get, what you'll need to do is wrap the 24 movies. I had thought that it would take a roll of wrapping paper from the Dollar Tree, but ended up having to use close to half of one of the rolls I bought for the Christmas books countdown. Once they're all wrapped, put them in a basket (I bought the basket in the picture last year from Michaels) to keep them all in one place. On December 1st, the family gets to pick one movie to watch that night. You'll do this every night through Christmas Eve, that will be your last movie. I can't wait to see what order they all get picked in. What fun countdowns do you do with your family?

This is a really neat idea. I have started collecting Christmas movies because I watch one every evening from the night after Thanksgiving till Christmas. I think I am going to incorporate this into my Christmas traditions as well.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it! I figured this would be a countdown that anyone would enjoy doing.

Glad you like the idea. It just hit me last year when I was putting the Christmas movies away and actually counted how many we had. We love doing the book countdown and now we can do a movie a night as well!
