Mistletoes Christmas Ornament

Back when Michael was one, I was looking for different ornaments we could make as gifts for the family as keepsakes of when he was little.  We decided that we wanted to do something with his hands (Salt Dough Handprint Santa Ornament) and feet.  So like any good mom, I went online to search for ideas.

I ran across this cute idea of making the feet into a mistletoe ornament.  The only downside to the craft was that it was using crafting clay and just seemed like it was going to take way too much time.  Since we were making the hand prints with salt dough, I decided we would take the idea and make it with the salt dough.

What you need to make salt dough:

2 C flour
1/2 C salt
1/2 C water

Mix the ingredients together until you get a doughy texture.  You might need to add more water or flour.  Preheat your oven to 200 degrees F.  Roll the dough out like you would for making cookies.  We then had Michael press both feet into the dough.

Jon carefully cut around the foot print and I took a plastic straw to the heal to make a hole to put ribbon through later.  Place foot print on a cookie tray and bake for 3 hours.  Once they are done baking, remove from cookie tray and let them cool.  I generally let them stay over night.

I painted the front and the back in a green paint.  I think it might have taken about three coats to get it to the right color green I was looking for.  After the paint had dried, Jon lined up the holes on the heals of the feet and supper glued them together.  I then added ribbon through the holes to be able to hang them on the tree.  To make it look more like mistletoe, I found some red pom poms and glued three of the to the heals.

This is actually one of my favorite ornaments we've made with Michael so far.  It's also special because no one else in the family has one.  Don't forget to write their name and the date on the back.  As always, send us pictures of any of the ornaments you've made because of reading our posts.  Post them on our Facebook page Gigglebox Tells it Like it is, tweet them to us @WVUGigglebox, or tag us on Instagram @wvugigglebox.
