Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival
If you love Disney like me, then you more than likely have a Disney Bucketlist. Yes, I have a Disney Bucketlist and will probably write a post about it. One of the things on my list was to attend the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. Last year I finally got to cross it off the list!
The Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival has been going on at Walt Disney World since the early 90's. Each year during the Spring months (generally March - May), Epcot is transformed into a colorful garden of flowers and plants. It truly is amazing what Disney can do with just ordinary plants. I mean, it's Disney so you should expect nothing less.
Last year we went for my actual birthday weekend at the end of April. Yes, we just went for a weekend - 3 days and 4 parks. I would not suggest this if you're wanting to experience all that you can, but we didn't want to take Michael out of school for too many days. We spent 2 half days at Epcot which we later realized was not the best idea with a festival that we'd never been to going on. My suggestion is to plan 2 or 3 full days at Epcot. Yes, I feel that Epcot without the festival can be a two day park and even more so once all the new attractions in the works are open in a few years. Spend one day in Future World, another in the World Showcase, and have a day just for the Flower and Garden Festival.
Throughout Epcot you will find amazing looking topiaries of some iconic Disney characters as well as gardens with many different styles of plants. Can you guess who these characters are and where they can be found in Epcot?
There's also plenty of fun things for the kids. During Flower and Garden there is this amazing playround that any kid would have a blast in. It was on the list of things to do, but time did not permit it. If you or your kids love butterflies, there's a butterfly garden that you can walk through. When we were there the Kidcopt activity that is in the World Showcase was changed from a Duffy Bear to a fun passport that talked about what fruit/vegetable that country is known for. Epcot and actually Walt Disney World as a whole is known for doing edutainment right.
Flower and Garden offers several amazing photo opportunities. Several of the topiary displays had Photo Pass photographers on hand and if we had more time, we would have partaken in them.
As you walk through World Showcase, there are many amazing outdoor kitchens to showcase the flavors around the world. I wish that my family was more adventurous when it comes to food so we could have ate around the world. There are also specialty drinks at the outdoor kitchens so you can not only eat, but drink around the world.
If you decide to go to the festival during the weekend, make sure to check and see who's preforming at the Garden Rocks Concert Series. Some great acts lined up for this year's festival. I will definitely be keeping this is mind next time we go.
You know what's so great about the whole entire festival? It doesn't cost anymore than your park ticket! Well, I mean, the food will cost, but everything else is at no additional charge. Along with all the amazing exhibits, there's seminars and how-to demonstrations. So, if you're really into flowers and/or gardening, I would highly recommend checking out the festival. Actually, I would recommend anyone to check out the festival at least once.
Even though this has now been crossed off my Disney Bucketlist, I do plan on us going back so we can fully experience it. Have you been to the International Flower and Garden Festival? If so, what did you like the most about it?
