Have you ever walked through Adventureland and wondered why people are walking around with old looking maps?  Or maybe wondered why it sounds like cannons are being shot?  More than likely someone is doing the free interactive A Pirate's Adventures: Treasures of the Seven Seas.

When I was mapping out our visit to the Magic Kingdom for our trip in April 2017, I asked my husband and son if they wanted to try this treasure hunt out.  It sounded like a lot of fun with all the stuff I had read about it and so they decided we would give it a try.  At the time, there were 4 maps or missions as they call them, there is now 5.

To get started you'll want to walk through Adventureland and slightly into Frontierland.  The building will be on your left right after you walk through the arches exiting Adventureland.  Inside there will be a Cast Member (CM) who will walk you through getting all setup.  Only one person in your group needs to be in charge of running your hunt so, we let our 5 year old son set everything up with his magic band/card.

When you scan your magic band/card at the screen, the system will choose which mission you will do.  Our first one was the Guardian's Curse.  It will tell you what you need to look for and give you a hint on where it will be located in Adventureland.  Before leaving the building, grab the map that coincides with the mission at hand.

Here's a closer look at the gorgeous map.  My husband had even said they would make amazing decorations in a pirate themed room.  I mean, you expect nothing less with anything from Disney, right?!?

As I said before, you will be given a symbol and a hint on where to go to next.  Look for the symbol on the map.  I did have a hard time at first to wrap my head around the map and the lay of Adventureland.  I believe our first symbol was the bull's eye which is actually located near the Swiss Family Treehouse.  You'll then want to find that symbol on the items located in the area.  Once you find it, scan your magic band/card on the symbol to hear (normally it's Captain Jack himself) and watch for the clue.  You'll keep doing that until you find the treasure which will appear and Captain Jack will tell you to head back to the building where you started.

When you walk in, you'll want to tell the CM what mission you've completed and they will give you your very own "treasure".  You can then start up another mission if you would like.

We had so much fun, we went for a second one.  This time it was Haven Defense.  Make sure you use the same magic band/card that you used for your first mission so that it remembers what you've done.

After completing our second mission we received our "treasure" and something pretty awesome.  While we were getting ready to do a third mission, the CM acted like they don't normally do this and handed us three paper fast passes for Pirates of the Caribbean.  I had read on one of my blogger friend's posts that once you complete 2 missions, they give you paper fast passes to Pirates.  Since I knew this ahead of time, I didn't fast pass the ride and we went straight to the building to get started on the missions.  Of course we acted completely surprised and thanked the CM so much for the passes.  We then went on our merry way.

Since we had started a third mission we could have come back at anytime during the day to complete it, but didn't end up doing it.  Keep in mind that you can start a mission anytime up until 30 minutes before Adventureland closes.  My son absolutely loved it and us adults thought it was really well done.  My biggest complaint of the whole entire thing is that you do a lot of back tracking with the clues.  If you're in to counting steps, make sure to have your device on when doing this.  We did a lot of walking just in Adventureland that day.  If you complete all 5 missions, you'll receive a card with Captain Jack's signature stating you've completed the missions.  It didn't take too long to complete a mission, no more than 30 minutes.  We had a great time as a family completing the missions and cannot wait to go back and complete the rest.

  1. I love your write up about this experience. I go to the Magic Kingdom all the time and haven't done this yet, it seems like a mini version or Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom which has you criss-crossing the whole park. I could handle just Adventureland, lol.

    1. Glad you liked it! We started the Sorcerers that day as well, but never went to any of the other locations. Kind of glad we just did the Pirates treasure hunt because it was one of the hottest days in April last year when we went.

  2. I have always wanted to do this with our boys, but they have since "outgrown" their desire to do so. I'll just have to keep it in my back pocket to do when they have littles....or maybe I'll just brave it and do it myself. LOL.

  3. This sounds like a fun thing to do at the Magic Kingdom. My kids like the Sorcerer's game, so this is right up their alley!
